It is one of the polocies of Ecoturismo Italia to seek to promote sustainable accommodation operations in Italy. It is one of our objectives to identify and promote accommodation which actively operates on an environmentally and ethically sound basis, ideally in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol on having minimal impacts upon the climate.
In 2003 the European Union proposed the 'Ecolabel', in order to categorise tourist accommodation services which operate to a high environmental standard. The Ecolabel is a certification programme awarded to services and products which have low environmental impacts. The logo, consisting of a green flower, has been widely promoted by European institutions and is consequently widely recognised by European citizens. We want to define Eco-Accommodation and the relative services that have obtained the European Ecolabel so that their environmental policies and actions can be verified by a third party. We fundamentally believe that operating a worthy system is done by defining, organising, planning and operating based on interpretation and environmental education of the ecotourism attractions of the particular area concerned.
