What is Ecotourism?

First of all, we have to know what we’re talking about, so let’s get started with building a common language….

 We will start defining the concept of “ecotourism” according to UNWTO – United Nations World Tourism Organization:

“Ecotourism is a form of tourism in natural areas which has to contribute to protect the nature and to the wellness of local population.

    1.   It consists of educational aspects and environmental interpretation
    2.   In general, but not necessarily, it’s organized by small local companies or foreign operators who organize and offer ecotourist trips for small groups.
    3.   It minimizes negative impact on the natural landscape and the social-cultural environment.
    4.   It supports the protection of natural areas:

    Creating economical benefits for local community, organizations and authorities who manage the natural zones to protect them,
    Representing an employment and income source for local communities, increasing awareness towards either local population either tourists to preserve both nature and culture.”

Our partners make this definition operative through several projects in which they’re involved in everyday practice giving all travellers the opportunity to have an unique, enjoyable and unforgettable experience!

In this sense, Ecotourism is:

    Holiday experiences in natural places, different from the usual ones
    Unforgettable encounters with native people
    Adventure and pleasure, as well as peace and serenity, in the middle of nature
    A more humble approach towards cultures and different ways of thinking
    Travelling with respect, joy to discover and a big amount of curiosity!

Ecoturismo Italia Association is open to everybody who agrees that there is not enough ecotourism in the world yet and there is still a lot to do.

You can be a tourist, a local operator, fond of nature, a powerful person, someone who lives in countryside, a hotel manager, or maybe someone so completely different.

What we care about is that you think of ecotourism as something that makes sense to our future travelling and to our planet.
